Reconstitution
Within your practical side of the course you will work with the product Bocouture©. Botulinum Toxin is a PRESCRIPTION ONLY medication.
Bocouture comes in a vial as a powder. This powder needs to be turned into a liquid in order to inject.
Bocouture vials comes in 2 different sizes. Either 50 units or 100 units. More commonly is 50 units.
1 50unit vial will cover all 3 areas.
In order to reconstitute the powder into a liquid, saline 0.9% needs to be added. 1.25ml into 50 unit vials and double for 100 unit vials – 2.5ml. Saline can be found from your wholesalers.
Once the correct amount of saline has been injected into the vial, the powder should dissolve into the solution. If this hasn’t happened, roll the vial between warm hands to help aid with this. NEVER shake the vial.
1 50 unit vial will cover 3 areas. frontalis, glabella and crows feet.
Frontalis uses 12 units.
Glabella uses 16 units.
Crows feet uses 20 units. bocoture face map
all of these units added together makes up 48 units. The last 2 units could either be discarded of or, put into a fridge. once reconstituted will only last 2 weeks. this can be used at the 14 day review of your client if needed as a top up.
We then have to figure out how much solution to inject.
On this course, we work in 2 & 4 units as seen on the face map above. Above, you can see the injection points of each area and how many units are needed for each injection site whether it be 2 or 4.
to inject, we use an insulin syringe. 1 for each area. insulin syringes are not measured in ml. they are measured in units. They come with the needle already attached ready for injection.
we draw up the solution with the insulin syringe.
2 botulinum toxin units = 5 insulin units
4 botulinum toxin units = 10 insulin units
For frontalis, we draw up 30 insulin units on the insulin syringe
For glabella, we draw up 40 insulin units on the insulin syringe
For crows feet, we draw up 50 insulin units on the insulin syringe
For example, as you can see from the face map above, for the frontalis we inject 6 times 2 botulinum toxin units. this means we inject 5 units on the insulin syringe in each injection point.
Above is an image of an insulin syringe which you will use to draw up the solution and inject. You will need one syringe per area. You can see the numbers tracking down the syringe. These numbers are units. For example, as noted above, frontalis needs 12 units of botulinum toxin which results to 30 insulin units. You would draw up 30 insulin units on your insulin syringe of toxin. Remember, 2units of toxin is 5 units on the insulin syringe and 4units of toxin is 10 units on the insulin syringe.
