It is important to educate client’s on aftercare advice following treatment to increase the benefits of the treatment they have had, make further improvements and prevent any unwanted results. All clients should be told about contra-actions (potential results following treatment) and what to do in the event of this happening.

It is important to advise the client to rest for a few hours once they get home, to avoid a large or heavy meal, or any form of strenuous exercise activities, and to drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.

Contra-actions following facials:

Redness/Irritation, swelling, erythema (reddening of the skin), reaction

Aftercare to give the client to maximise results:

  • Avoid wearing make-up for at least 24 hours after a facial treatment
  • Always cleanse, tone and moisturise your face. To prevent loss of moisture, protect the skin from make-up and to keep the skin soft and supple
  • Always remove all traces of make-up at the end of the day
  • Drink plenty of water ( 6-8 glasses per day)
  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet – include at least five portions of fruit and vegetables
  • Do not undertake any other facial skincare treatments within 48 hours of having a facial and no exfoliation for 7 days
  • Avoid sunbathing for up to 24-48 hours
  • Wear SPF Factor 50+ daily, even on grey days to prevent further ageing of the skin and pigmentation
  • Recommend products for the client to use to maximise results and prevent disrupting progress
  • Advise when to return for further treatments
  • Lifestyle changes to maximise progress potential
