The axial skeleton consists of 80 bones and includes:

Skull: Protects the brain and forms the face.
Cranium (protects the brain)
Facial bones (form the face)
Vertebral Column: Protects the spinal cord and supports the body.
Cervical vertebrae (neck)
Thoracic vertebrae (mid-back)
Lumbar vertebrae (lower back)
Sacrum (base of the spine)
Coccyx (tailbone)
Thoracic Cage: Protects the heart and lungs.
Ribs (12 pairs)
Sternum (breastbone)
