The theory of microneedling

Wound healing response and Microneedling:

The wound healing response is the biological repair action that occurs within the skin after deep trauma. As the hair follicle is situated within the dermis the increased activity will assist with growth of the hair also.

The process 4 stages

  • Bleeding
  • Inflammation
  • Proliferation
  • Maturation

Stage 1- Bleeding

The pinpoint bleeding, or potential pin point bleeding, created during microneedling creates a wound. When tissue is first wounded, blood comes in contact with collagen, triggering blood platelets to begin secreting inflammatory factors.  Fibrin and Fibronectin cross link together and form a plug that traps protein and particles.

Stage 2 -Inflammation

The body will flood the area with tissue fluid, mainly consisting of white blood cells (macrophanges) to clean up and foreign material. This increase in fluid and activity will cause swelling.

Stage 3 – Proliferative phase  (the magic stage)

2-3 days after the wound occurs, fibroblasts begin to enter the wound site and begin the healing process. This will also stimulate epithelial growth within the hair follicle also

Stage 4 – Remodelling Phase

When the levels of collagen production equalize, the remodelling phase of tissue repair begins. This ensure that the collagen produced matures and is more robust.
