Outcome 8: Be able to have knowledge of the lymphatic system: (THE WORKSHEET COVERS ALL THIS CRITERIA)
- Explain the functions of the Lymphatic System, detailing how the system does the following:
- Subsidiary circulation (lymph formation) –
- Immunity –
- Return of lost plasma proteins to the blood –
- Transport dietary lipids –
- Describe the structures, locations and functions of the lymphatic components: lymph, lymph capillaries, lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, lymphatic trunks, lymphatic ducts (thoracic and right lymphatic duct), subclavian veins
- Describe the structures, locations and functions of other lymphoid tissue: appendix, Peyer’s patches, spleen, tonsils, thymus.
- How does lymph travel around the body and what do vessels contain to prevent backflow? How many directions does it flow?
- Label a diagram showing the location of the major lymph nodes of the face and body to include the location of Location of axillary, cervical (superficial and deep), inguinal, intestinal, occipital, popliteal, post-auricular, pre-auricular (parotid), supratrochlear. Label other lymphoid tissue also.
