ERGONOMICS

CORRECT POSTURE

  • Comfortable and adjustable stool
  • Making sure the height is adjusted so that your clients head is just below your chest
  • Legs preferably under the couch with the feet flat on the floor (no crossing at the ankles)
  • Lean forward with your entire body not just your back (back needs to be kept as straight as possible)
  • Hand in neutral position and not flexed up or down
  • Chin needs to be kept up and not angled to far down
  • A quick get up and stretch in-between clients if seated for a long period of time

OESTEOPATH AND SPORTS MASSAGE

  • It’s recommended to see an osteopath, every 3-4 months for your back
  • And every 6 weeks for your wrists and hands
  • Regular sports massages are also recommended

All of the above will help relive tense and tight muscles and significantly improve posture. Looking after your wrists and hands will also help relive or avoid carpel tunnel syndrome as well as torn tendons which can happen in places you wouldn’t necessarily think of such as the thumb muscle.

RESPITORY HEALTH

The most common mask used by technicians is a hygiene mask which is suitable however to protect against the fumes from products such as eyelash glue a stronger mask with a filter is recommended

VISION

Although not always nesessary using an eye magnifier as a sight aid whilst carrying out a close up service has many benefits such as

  • Clearer vision
  • Aiding a cleaner treatment procedure
  • Less strain on eyes – especially when lashing for long periods of time

Choosing the right strength of magnification is important as some bigger magnifiers can make you dizzy. Comfort is also key, even if you wear glasses you can still purchase comfortable magnifiers that fit around glasses to suit you.

LIGHTING

The importance of effective lighting is crucial for up close treatments such as lashes when isolating and applying lash extensions or planing with a blade when dermaplaning, it prevents eye strain and you get better visual clarity.

Using a lamp with daylight lighting is recommended, in particular GLAMCOR lights as these are perfect for not heating products because they do not produce to much heat, which is important with products like the lash glue when it could affect the curing process.

It is also recommended that your lash studio lighting is with daylight bulbs too, as working in a darker room with just a small glamcor lamp can cause bad eye strain.
