Below will be an explanation on how the Plasma Pen treatment works, please read through this carefully. We will be going through this with you on your pratical day so don’t worry too much at this stage.
· Treatments can be done using a low or a high energy setting. Low energy are more beneficial for superficial effects, such as fine lines, or texture issues and correction of discoloration.
· High energy settings can improve wrinkles, acne scars and produce some tissue tightening.
Low energy
Low energy treatments are often repeated 3- 4 times, 3 weeks apart. Little downtime is required for such treatments
High energy
A single high energy treatment may produce superior results than a more frequent low energy treatment plan. The only downside to tis is higher discomfort for the client and grater downtime. The higher energy treatments penetrate far more deeply into the dermis, this creates a stronger wound healing response thus encouraging more collagen production and tightening.
The treatment is performed via minute spots made with the device spaced in a pattern technique to stimulate instant contraction and tightening of the skin fibres. Each one of these dots sublimates the superficial corneocytes without affecting the basal lamiae and without causing any bleeding and most importantly without causing any damage to the surrounding tissue and the tissue beneath.
A typical treatment should take 25- 30 minutes, 20 – 25 is the maximum if the device is on a high energy setting
Patients must attend an hour prior to treatment to numb, sufficient time is essential to gain the maximum results without client discomfort.
· Remove all make-up and apply non-flammable antiseptic like vitasept or clinisept (alcohol free) a clean cotton pad by gently rubbing the area you’re going to treat.
· Take photographs
· Apply the TLA, massage it in first, then smother the area all over, covering it can increase the effectiveness.
· 5% 40 – 45 minutes, 10% and above 20 minutes – this must be self-purchased and self-administered.
· Complete a full consultation
· Discuss the treatment, and develop the clients treatment plan
· Perform a test shot to check the client’s sensitivity – most client can only tolerate 20 – 30 minutes treatment time, this is why you must numb effectively and work efficiently. DO NOT TOUCH TE SKIN WITH THE PROBE, CELLS SUBLIMATION IS OCCURING ON THE SURFACE LAYER OF THE SKIN – AS WELL AS THE EPI DERMAL LAYER, THE HEAT TRASFERED CAN GO LOWER INTO THE DERMAL LAYER, COMPLICATIONS WILL OCCUR IF THIS IS NOT OBSERVED.
· For all plasma pen treatments work along either side of the fine/deep line, never inside them and only remove the topical anaesthetic on small areas i.e. where you are working. This is so you “numb as you go”
· Carry out 1 area, sit the client up and take a picture, this is optional for better before and after pictures.
· You will see an immediate contraction of the skin, (SUBLIMATION) following this there may be a temporary fall before collagen starts building and tightening. This is why before and after pictures are essential.
· Repeat the other side.
· Apply a cold compress
· Apply a mineral moisturiser and an SPF 50 to the area
· Explain the aftercare procedure
· Book a treatment review for 6 weeks’ time
Formation patterns/techniques
Brick formation
Falten spotting
This technique is best used when there is no room for a brick formation. It is used when a fine line or wrinkle is present do not work on the line, this creates further creasing within the existing crease. Working next to the line, either side will pull/ stretch the line out.
Treatment frequency
Further treatments can be done at least 6-8 weeks following the initial treatment, but only if all the redness has subsided, in some cases this extends to 8 -12 weeks.
Booking a review at 4 weeks with your client is best practice to determine how they are healing and if they have achieved the desire result, then re book for the second treatment at the correct time frame for them.
A maximum of 4 treatments are permitted for a client who requires a repeat on any area. The effectiveness’ diminishes after this a the skin will not retract any further
1 – 2 treatments are most common and will give the client the desired result, on occasions 3 will need needed
Bunny and smokers lines lend themselves perfectly to the falten technique. A 5/6 is a good place to start on all clients, increasing to 7. This is preferential for eyelids also as setting 8 is too severe for eyelids for even deep rhytids.
