Contraindications

Contraindications:

A facial aim to improve the condition and appearance of the skin. Facial treatments should NEVER be carried out over areas of skin that appear sore or infected. The skin may react adversely to the treatment and the risk of cross infection is high. If a treatment is carried out over infected skin the infection could spread to other areas of the clients face or to the therapist. If treatment is carried out over damaged skin, e.g. cuts and/or abrasions, the healing process may be interfered with and the skin may take longer to heal than usual.

Contraindications that prevent treatment are:

  • Aids/HIV
  • Cancer
  • Circulatory diseases
  • Warts on the skin
  • Unidentified lumps or swelling
  • Open cuts and abrasions
  • Infectious skin disorders
  • Bacterial infections
  • Fungal infections
  • Recent scar tissue
  • Thrombosis
  • Sunburn
  • Malignant tumour on the skin
  • Cancer
  • Swelling/oedema
  • High Blood pressure

Contraindications that restrict treatment are:

  • Mild bruising
  • Dermatitis
  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • High Blood pressure

If a client has very sensitive skin, it is a good idea to carry out a patch test on the skin the day before the treatment goes ahead. Apply a little of each product you propose to use on the client on the inside of the elbow (in separate patches). If there is no reaction by the next day, it should be safe to apply the products to the client’s face.

IF YOU SUSPECT A CLIENT MAY HAVE A SKIN IFECTION, DO NOT CARRY OUT THE TREATMNET AND REFER THE CLIENT TO THEIR GP. NEVER ATTEMT TO DIAGOSE A CONDTIONAS YOU ARE NOT QUAIFIED TO DO SO
