Employer responsibility for the safety of staff/employees/clients:
EMPLOYER’S RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the Health & Safety at Work Act (HASAWA), your employer is not just responsible for the health and safety of its clients but also the staff and any visitors (such as product representatives, area managers and tradespeople). Your employer must:
■ maintain the workplace and make sure it is safe to work in
■ give staff appropriate training and supervision
■ keep access and exit points clear and free from hazards at all times
■ provide a suitable working environment and facilities that comply with the HASAWA
■ make sure the salon’s health and safety systems are reviewed and updated.
EMPLOYEE’S RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities under the HASAWA are to yourself, your colleagues and your clients. You must:
■ maintain the health and safety of yourself and others who might be affected by your actions
■ work together and communicate with your employer about health and safety issues, so your employer can keep within the law.
Who is the person responsible for reporting health and safety matters? YOU are! If you see a health and safety problem, you must deal with it or report it. Everyone is responsible for putting it right.
